FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why Is There Moss on My Roof?

When asphalt shingles are made, fillers, such as limestone are used so that there isn’t too much asphalt which makes them very heavy. Morning dew and rain create a favorable living environment for algae, which feed on the limestone filler. This is why some shady spots on your roof with less sunlight are prone to more growth. Even a little growth on the side with your favorite oak tree casting shade can be damaging to your home.

The north-facing portions of any roof are likely to get less sun, which also creates a favorable living environment for algae, moss & lichens.

  • How Often Do I Need to Clean My Roof?

Your roof cleaning frequency depends on various factors, including the environment, weather, that particular tree casting shade, and more. Sometimes, algae and lichen grow on only a small part of the roof but even this is damaging over time.

When you choose Moss Boss Roof Cleaning & House Washing for your roof cleaning needs, your roof is guaranteed to stay clean for two years. If it doesn’t, we’ll come back and take care of it within the guarantee period!

  • Will the Cleaner Harm Pets, Plants, or Kids?

We use a hydrogen-peroxide based cleaning solution that effectively lifts algae, lichens and moss off your roof with ease. Redihan's Wash Safe is the brand we trust. It has a very short shelf-life of 4-6 hours, and biodegrades very quickly once it's killed all the algae and moss. It's completely environmentally friendly, and is safe to be used around your pets, children, flowerbeds and local wildlife.

  • What are the black lines on my roof?

The black lines on your roof are algae that's built up over a period of time. You'll likely see these lines in the shadiest parts of your roof, north-facing sides, or under the trees. The areas of your roof  which get the least sun provide the perfect humid conditions for the algae to grow and move to other areas of your roof.

It's important for the life of your roof to remove and kill the algae, which gets rid of those unsightly black lines.

  • What is a "soft" wash?

Simply put, a “soft” wash is a low-pressure wash. The word exists to differentiate itself from a high-pressure “power” wash. Most exterior house cleaning companies use the soft wash method on homes and roofs.

  • Do you power wash or soft wash?

We do both! We use a  gentle, low pressure soft wash process when we wash your home or roof.

A more forceful power wash is used when we remove paint or stain from fencing or decking, and wash concrete, brick, stone pavers and  pool patios.
